Abayomi Peter Oladipo is a highly experienced Nigerian law-enforcement and security professional with 35 years of experience spanning policing, criminal investigation, intelligence, counter-terrorism, community policing, traffic management, public safety, international peacekeeping and strategic security leadership. He rose through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force to serve in senior command positions, including Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police and, as reflected in his profile, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Retired). His career combines extensive operational command experience with strategic leadership, intelligence management and international peacekeeping exposure. Within the Nigeria Police Force, he held progressively senior responsibilities, including Divisional Police Officer, Deputy Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Divisional Crime Officer, Area Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commissioner of Police. His assignments covered criminal investigations, public order, community policing, administration, intelligence, traffic enforcement and national security. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ports CID, Apapa, where his responsibilities included investigations relating to smuggling, cargo theft, fraud and economic sabotage within Nigeria’s critical maritime and commercial infrastructure. His intelligence and national-security experience was further strengthened through his appointment as Commissioner, Force Intelligence Bureau, where he directed intelligence gathering and analysis, surveillance and counter-crime intelligence activities and advised police leadership on emerging security threats and risks. He later served as Commissioner of Police, Ondo State, with responsibility for statewide operational, administrative and intelligence functions, including public safety, crisis response, elections security and public-order operations. Oladipo also has significant counter-terrorism and strategic security leadership experience. As an Assistant Inspector General of Police in the Counter Terrorism Unit, he led national counter-terrorism policing strategies and coordinated intelligence and tactical responses to terrorist threats, working with military and intelligence agencies. He subsequently served as AIG, Zone 13, providing strategic oversight of police commands and formations, coordinating zonal security operations, intelligence sharing and crime-prevention strategies. His international experience includes service with United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Sudan/Darfur. During his UNMIK assignment in Kosovo, he served as a Field Training Officer and Deputy Chief, Regional Traffic, providing mentoring and oversight to local police personnel, enforcing professional and international policing standards, supervising traffic operations and investigating serious traffic accidents. He subsequently served as Team Site Leader, UN Police, Melut, South Sudan, where he directed and supervised UN police operations, prepared operational plans and situation reports, assessed security breaches, monitored local police investigations, coordinated with local authorities and other UN agencies, and managed evacuation planning within his area of responsibility. In Darfur, he served as Senior Police Operations Advisor to AMIS Civilian Police, providing strategic advice on operational planning and deployment, information management, intelligence and reporting systems, police training, and the effective utilisation of personnel and assets. He was also appointed Acting Senior Police Advisor during the absence of the substantive advisor. Academically, Oladipo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Ogun State University, a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Lagos, and an LL.B (Hons) from the National Open University.
